Rwanda’s women national team of basketball for under 16 years-old, started games of zone 5, being beaten by Tanzania 74-63 points during the opening match of the tournament. The games are expected to end this 15th June 2019.
It was the game that opened the tournament
for women who are under 16 years-old. The tournament aims to show qualifiers
for African cup of the nation’s championship for basketball that is scheduled
to be held in Rwanda from 26 July to 4th August this year.
Hosting the game, Rwanda was beaten,
22-13 scores in the first round, and 17-13 in the second around. A half time of
the game finished when Rwanda had only 30 points, while Tanzania scored 35. In
the third round, Rwanda was again defeated 18-12, and, Rwanda drew with Tanzania,
in the 4th round, 21-21 points.
Catherine Mollel
Tanzanian Catherine Mollel became the best scorer in the game since she netted 32 points. The Rwandan, Hope Nyiramugisha was the second best scorer with 22 points.
Munezero
(Rwanda) and Anna
Sailepu (Tanzania) scored 16 points each during the match,
while Naurei Lamunjeri Ngimasirwa
(Tanzania) dribbled to net 14 points. In overall the match, Rwanda performed
well but was struggled by communication among players and their defenders still
need more trainings.
The opening
match of the tournament started at twelve o’clock at evening on Monday. Rwanda also need to intensify training of
front players since they dribble well but are struggled with netting the ball.
Rwanda has a ticket to reach the final games, if Rwanda finishes the first, it is expected that one team, between Uganda and Tanzania, will go with Rwanda to the African games that will be taking place in Rwanda.
