Ishimwe Dieudonné, widely known as Prince Kid, has been arrested in the United States after fleeing Rwanda, where he had been sentenced to five years in prison.
On
March 3, 2025, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the
arrest of the 38-year-old, who had been on the run after being convicted of two
crimes, including sexual assault. His arrest comes over a year after Rwandan
authorities lost track of him, prompting discussions about involving
international agencies like Interpol to secure his capture.
Prince
Kid, the former organizer of Miss Rwanda under his company Rwanda Inspiration
Backup, was first arrested in April 2022 on charges of sexual misconduct. In
December 2022, the Nyarugenge Intermediate Court acquitted him, leading to his
release. Shortly after, he married former Miss Rwanda, Elsa Iradukunda, who had
also been briefly detained for allegedly tampering with evidence in his case.
However,
in October 2023, the High Court overturned the acquittal and sentenced Prince
Kid to five years in prison, along with a fine of two million Rwandan Francs.
The court found him guilty of sexual assault and inappropriate sexual advances.
Before authorities could take him into custody, he disappeared, sparking a
manhunt.
Now
detained by ICE, Prince Kid awaits a decision on his possible deportation to
Rwanda. His case has attracted widespread media attention, with international
news outlets such as WFAA reporting on his arrest. If extradited, he will serve
his sentence in Rwanda as per the court's ruling.
