Mutesi Jolly, crowned Miss Rwanda in 2016 has reaffirmed her pride in Rwanda, highlighting its beauty, welcoming people, and safety as key reasons for global tourists to visit.
Speaking in a 32-second
video released by Visit Rwanda on January 21, 2025, she praised her homeland
and shared her experiences promoting its charm abroad.
The video was filmed
during her visit to watch Arsenal face Manchester United at the Emirates
Stadium in London on January 13, 2025. The match ended in a thrilling 5-3
penalty win for Manchester United after a 1-1 draw, dashing Arsenal’s FA Cup
hopes.
Jolly, a self-proclaimed
Arsenal fan, often attends matches with her family. In London, she was spotted
alongside Rwanda’s ambassador Johnston Busingye, blending with the passionate
crowd cheering for the Gunners.
When asked about her
favorite place in Rwanda, Jolly pointed to the Northern Province, home to the
majestic mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. These endangered
creatures, found only in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,
draw thousands of visitors annually.
"There are only
about 720 mountain gorillas left in the world, and Rwanda is their safe
haven," she shared. "I encourage everyone to visit and experience the
magic of these incredible creatures."
Jolly also emphasized
Rwanda’s reputation as a safe destination, particularly for women. She revealed
a personal tidbit: "I was the first Rwandan woman to represent our country
at Miss World. That’s a memory I’ll always cherish."
Beyond her advocacy for
Rwanda’s tourism, Jolly revealed her favorite Arsenal player, Bukayo Saka,
praising his skill and resilience. "He’s a true inspiration," she
said, echoing sentiments shared by global fans like Kim Kardashian.
In closing, Jolly
celebrated Rwanda’s visionary leadership and its strides in tourism and
development. "I am proud to be Rwandan," she declared. Through her
voice and Visit Rwanda’s campaign, the country continues to shine on the global
stage as a top destination.
