The Minister of Youth and Arts Development, Dr. Utumatwishima Jean Nepo Abdallah, hosted members of the cultural troupe Ishyaka ry’Intore on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
The meeting celebrated
their contributions to Rwandan culture and discussed their upcoming debut
concert, Indirirarugamba, scheduled for January 25 at the Kigali
Conference and Exhibition Village (Camp Kigali).
During the meeting, the troupe performed for the Minister, who praised their role in preserving Rwandan heritage and pledged the Ministry’s continued support for their artistic endeavors.
Dr. Utumatwishima remarked, “Your work uplifts our culture and
inspires unity among Rwandans. The Ministry is committed to standing by you as
you champion our traditions.”
The troupe’s members
expressed excitement about their first independent concert since parting ways
with their previous group, Ibihame by’Imana. They explained that
the event aims to usher Rwandans into the New Year with joy and cultural pride.
“Starting the year with our traditions helps us bless it and keep it pure,”
said one member.
Cyogere, the troupe
leader, shared the inspiration behind the concert’s name, Indirirarugamba (Battle
Song). He explained that it pays homage to a historic battalion of young
trainees who requested to join the battlefield to defend Rwanda. “The name
reflects our determination and the pride of contributing to our culture with
the same fervor those young warriors showed,” he added.
The event promises a rich
display of traditional music, dance, and storytelling. The troupe views the
concert as a chance to instill cultural values while creating a joyful
atmosphere for Rwandans. “Through this event, we aim to remind everyone of our
heritage and start the year with hope and celebration,” Cyogere said.
As excitement builds,
Ishyaka ry’Intore calls on Rwandans to join them in this cultural journey. The
concert is set to be a heartfelt tribute to Rwanda’s past and a vibrant step
toward preserving its future.
