Pope Francis has raised concerns regarding his health after being seen in public with a significant black bruise on his chin. The 87-year-old pontiff, known for his energetic schedule despite his age, was photographed with the visible mark, prompting worry among his supporters and the broader Catholic community.
It follows months of medical worries for the Pope, 87, who also seemed tired and had a swollen neck at a ceremony of instalment of new Cardinals. The pictures show a huge purple and black colored bruise near his chin and neck. Despite these apparent problems though, he continued to hold the event where new cardinals were installed.
While the Vatican confirmed that the bruise was the result of a minor fall where he hit his chin on his bedside table the previous morning, rumors are circulating about the cause of the bruise. Some sources suggest that it may have been a result of a minor fall, while others remain cautious, stressing the pope's already delicate health condition due to his age and prior knee surgery.
Because of his age the Pope now uses a wheelchair due to knee and back problems. This event was important because it inducted new members into the group that will later choose Francis’ successor, if he dies or retires as Cardinals are the highest-ranking officials in the Catholic Church, beside the Pope.
Pope Francis has always maintained a rigorous public schedule, but his latest appearance has led many to question if his demanding workload is taking a toll on his well-being. Medical experts weigh in on the potential implications of such injuries for someone in his advanced years, especially considering his previous mobility issues.
As of now, the Vatican has yet to provide more details, but Pope Francis’ followers continue to express their heartfelt concern for his health, praying for his swift recovery.
