Ahead of the main CHOGM summit, President Paul Kagame attended a significant meeting hosted by the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI) in Samoa. The initiative, led by King Charles III of the United Kingdom, focuses on promoting environmentally sustainable investments.
The SMI meeting, chaired
by King Charles III, took place as part of the Commonwealth Heads of Government
Meeting (CHOGM) 2024, being held in Samoa. The initiative was first launched in
2020 during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as a way to
advocate for green investment and sustainable practices.
On Thursday, President
Kagame also held discussions with the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda,
Gaston Browne. Their meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and
exploring new avenues for cooperation in various sectors.
The CHOGM summit, which
officially began on October 21, 2024, brings together leaders from Commonwealth
nations that share English as their official language. The event is being held
in Apia, Samoa, with a strong focus on global collaboration and development.
The official opening
ceremony of CHOGM 2024 will take place on Friday, October 25, when Rwanda will
formally hand over the Commonwealth chairmanship to Samoa, marking the start of
