Renowned filmmaker and writer Valens Kabarira is set to premiere his new documentary, "Vivant Les Chemins de la Mémoire", in Rwanda on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Institut Français du Rwanda. The film, featuring a soundtrack by Jules Sentore, highlights Kabarira’s personal story of surviving the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The documentary, created at a cost of €20,000 (approximately 30 million RWF), includes testimonies from various individuals recounting their own experiences. Kabarira shared that this film was born from his desire to explore the memory of survival and the process of rebuilding life after such a tragic event.

In addition to the screening, Kabarira will lead a discussion about the film and introduce his book, also based on his journey. Inspired by his sister, Judence Kayitesi, who wrote "A Broken Life: In Search of Lost Parents and Lost Happiness," Kabarira’s work sheds light on the personal and collective trauma of genocide survivors.

Jules Sentore, known for his mastery in traditional music, was invited by Kabarira to compose the soundtrack for the documentary, adding emotional depth to the storytelling. This partnership blends history and culture, paying tribute to the resilience of survivors.
