Football Icon Jimmy Gatete Reveals Reasons Behind His Disappearance - Watch Video

Former national football team legend, Jimmy Gatete, has disclosed reasons behind his disappearance from the football scene in Rwanda after leaving this career.

Speaking in an interview with the media upon his return to Rwanda to attend the opening ceremony of the Kigali Universe sports complex, Jimmy Gatete addressed concerns arising from his sudden departure from professional football in 2010, asserting that there is no cause for alarm.

He stated: "These are significant issues, but in my view, everything is possible. While I may not have all the answers right now, I assure you that I am doing my best, and we should remain optimistic that solutions will be found."

Regarding the national team 'Amavubi', Gatete expressed his confidence in its performance, despite recent challenges. He said: "Yes, I still follow the national team and believe that they are capable. I have heard they have also won some matches, including victories against South Africa's national football team, indicating progress."

Regarding the current situation of Rayon Sports, which he once coached, Gatete acknowledged that the circumstances might not be ideal but remained hopeful for improvement. He commented: "The current situation may not be favorable, but there are always uncertainties in sports. It's hard to pinpoint the exact problem, but I believe things will eventually turn around."

Jimmy Gatete, became a household name after leading the 'Amavubi' to victory against Uganda in 2003 and Ghana in subsequent matches.

His contributions were instrumental in Rwanda's qualification for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations, marking a historic moment for Rwandan football. Gatete has had a distinguished career playing for clubs such as Mukura Victory Sports, APR FC, Maritzburg United, Rayon Sports, Police FC, and St. George in Ethiopia. During his time in Rwanda from 2001 to 2009, he participated in 42 matches, scoring 25 goals.
