Heavy rainfall that fell down last night, May 3rd, 2023, has caused extreme damages to residents and infrastructures across the Western province of Rwanda, 129 people confirmed dead while many houses destroyed.
According to
updates that the governor of western province has passed to Rwanda Broadcasting
Agency’ radio (radio Rwanda), the heavy rainfall occurred for the entire night,
especially in Karongi, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Ngororero, and Rutsiro district. Authorities are giving basic supports to the residents while 129 residents
already confirmed dead.
Social media
posts that are circulating on social media show many infrastructures including roads and households highly affected as some houses fell down while roads flooded and blocked by rainwater and fallen trees due to the storm.
Meteo Rwanda
reported that heavy rainfall is expected in this month of May as usual.
