From 7th July 2019, Rwanda is expected to be hosting international championship of the clubs who are members of CECAFA Zone. The tournament popularly known as CECAFA Kagame cup will be taking place in the country as FERWAFA confirmed. The Permanent Secretary of CECAFA said that two Tanzanian teams are scared of the tournament.
After obtaining teams that will face
off in in the tournament marked 20 years since it was started, CECAFA together
with FERWAFA unveiled the teams classified into four groups, each group
comprises 4 teams, meaning, 16 teams are qualified to be competing for the cup,
which was won by Tanzanian Azam FC in the last year.
16 teams are
expected to be contending for the CECAFA Kagame cup, the tournament which will
be played at 4 stadiums in Rwanda, including; Amahoro national stadium, Kigali
Stadium, Huye Stadium, and Umuganda Stadium.
Rwandan
clubs that are scheduled to attend the tournament include APR Fc, Rayon Sports
Fc and Mukura Victory Sports.
Group (A)
includes; Rayon Sports (Rwanda), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), KMC (Tanzania) and
Atlabara (South Sudan).
Group (B)
includes; Azam FC (Tanzania), Mukura VS (Rwanda), Bandari (Kenya) and KCCA
(Uganda).
Group (C)
includes; APR FC, Green Buffaloes (Zambia), Proline FC (Uganda) and Heegan
(Somalia).
Group (D)
includes Gormahia FC (Kenya), DC Motema Pembe (DR Congo), KMKM (Zanzbar) and AS
Sports (Djibouti).
APR FC might
reconcile with its fans during the tournament
FERWAFA and
CECAFA told journalists that they need to sit down and hold a conversation with
AZAM Tv, which is expected to air all the match, to unveil a schedule of
matches.
Rayon Sports Fc
Some clubs like
Simba SC and Yanga Africans from Tanzania confirmed that they will not attend
the championship.
Permanent
Secretary of CECAFA said that those two Tanzanian teams are scared of the tournament
and dropped before it kicks off.
‘’ Simba SC
and Yanga agreed to attend the championship before, because they are always
rivals in Tanzania, i believe that Yanga became afraid that it might be beaten by
Simba Sc while in Rwanda. When Simba SC heard that TP Mazembe is coming to
Rwanda they also got scared since Simba Sc recalled a huge defeat of 5-0 in CAF.
They are scared that they might become losers in the championship,’’ he said.
Nicolas Musonye told the journalists that Yanga and Simba Sc got scared
Nicolas complemented that CECAFA Kagame Cup 2019 will be a tougher tournment than expected and that many African teams wanted to attend but places were limited. Azam Fc won CECAFA Kagame cup of the last year after defeating Simba Sc 2-1. At that time, Rwanda was represented by APR Fc and Rayon Sports Fc who could not make it to the final. Rwanda previously hosted CECAFA Kagame Cup championship in 2014, when El Merreikh from Sudan defeated APR Fc 1-0 at the final match.
