US Food and Drug Authority-FDA has fully approved Remdesivir as a treatment to use for COVID-19 patients in hospital, clearing the so many theories on which drugs to use for the treatment of the virus which has ravaged the world with US being hit most.
Remdesivir has been among different other drugs used to cure President Donald Trump and he has been “ok” in only three days. Since then, different questions and studies emerged.
The drug was approved on Thursday with FDA releasing statement which it said the drug is “for use in adult and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older and weighing at least 40 kilograms (about 88 pounds) for treatment of Covid-19 requiring hospitalization”.
They (WHO) said that it’s based on their own study. They tested the effects of four potential treatments among them, Remdesivir.
Others were “malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, auto-immune drug interferon and the HIV drug combination of lopinavir and ritonavir”; however, Dexamethasone, a low-cost steroid which is being used widely in the UK was not among the studies.
Stephen Hahn,Agency’s Commissioner said that “Today’s approval is supported by data from multiple clinical trials the agency has rigorously assessed and represents an important scientific milestone in the Covid-19 pandemic”.
The regulator is approving Remdesivir to treat covid -19 patients in a hospital, WHO recently said that “Remdesivir had little to no effect on patients’ survival.
