The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) has announced a transformative plan to enhance the quality of football in the country.
This initiative, set to be implemented in
2025, will introduce permanent coaching positions across various national
teams, focusing on youth teams, women’s teams, and assistant coaches for the
senior Amavubi team.
Traditionally, only the head coach of the senior men’s national team has held a permanent contract, while assistant coaches operated on temporary agreements.
This arrangement often created
inconsistencies in their involvement and contributions. However, the new plan
aims to establish permanent contracts for assistant coaches, ensuring they have
equal commitment and responsibilities as the head coach.
Speaking on B&B Kigali FM, FERWAFA President emphasized that this move will provide coaches with more opportunities to monitor domestic league matches closely.
This will enable them
to identify and select players based on consistent performance and discipline,
thereby strengthening the national team with a well-informed approach.
The national women’s team will also benefit
from this initiative, as a permanent coach will be appointed. This development
is expected to elevate the team’s performance and foster the growth of young
talent in women’s football in Rwanda.
Moreover, the youth national teams will also
see the appointment of permanent coaches. This step will bolster the
development of young players and ensure proper nurturing of talent from a young
age, laying a strong foundation for the future of Rwandan football.
Establishing permanent coaching positions
across all Amavubi categories is anticipated to bring significant progress to
the nation’s football. It will provide a solid framework for building
competitive teams capable of excelling on the international stage.
This bold step by FERWAFA underscores a
commitment to advancing football in Rwanda and offers hope for a brighter
future for players, coaches, and fans alike.
