VOLLEYBALL: REG starts preparations ahead of the new season

Rwanda Energy Group Volleyball Club, assistant coach Peter Kamasa has kicked off the preparations ahead of the start of the 2018/2019 national league which kicks off in middle November.

REG have not won the league in last two years since it was founded but thye won Rutsindura memorial tournament two times convectively

Under the guidance of Coach Peter Kamasa who is working with team before the team appoint the head coach and the club management are vowing to bring an end to the long drought.

Kamasa has started training with new signing national team skipper Christophe Mukunzi who signed from Gisagara.

“We gave the players a holiday to enjoy with their families but now that the festive season is over, we plan to start preparations in order to give ourselves a chance to compete for the title,” REG assistant coach told reporters on the third day of the training on Thursday evening.

Other players who are in training are Peace Twagirayesu, Patience Sangwa, Friend Ndayambaje, Simon Rwigema and Sylvester Ndayisaba.

pyaers who are in trail are center players like Fabrice Nkezabahizi and Emmy Twagirayezu and Gloire Rwigema.

The players who are not reported to training due to the work are Ugandan international

Saviour Atama, Tanzanian right attacker, Jackson Good Luck, Olivier Ntagengwa, Flavier Ndamukunda and Irene Jacob Cyusa, who is still nursing his knee injury.

Kamasa said that the players who have not reported in the training will join other next week as the team will enhance the training on Monday at NPC Indoor while they have been trained at Cercle Sportif de Kigali for the last three days.

Last season, the Carre d’AS and Genocide Memorial Tournament finalist finished in the second position, behind Gisagara. “We started with endurance and running as we want to get ready for the new season. We are mixing physical training with ball as we want our players to be at good level before we start to play games” the former Umubano Blue Tigers and UNIK left attacker said

“We want to improve our game and try to win the title because it’s been long time without winning the league.  We are trying to build the team and add other players that can help to fight for the title this year,” former Rukinzo of Burundi and APR player said.

REG is the youngest team in the national volleyball league. Meanwhile, the champions Gisagara, who will represent the country at the Africa Club Championships this year, are yet to start training.
