ARPL: Play-off Ties to decide Intare FC’s Replacement

The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) Executive Committee Session of September 17, 2018 resolved to have play-off ties staged to determine the possible replacement of Intare Fc in the 2018/19 Azam Rwanda Premier League.

The Play-Off matches which will be staged in the upcoming days will pit four teams namely: Pepiniere FC, Gicumbi FC, Miroplast FC and Sorwathe FC respectively.

The Rwanda Football Federation will announce the fixtures, timing and venue of the play-off matches.

In July, Intare Fc alongside AS Muhanga reached the final of the national second division league to seal promotion to the top flight league. Intare FC also defeated AS Muhanga 2-1 in final match.

On August 30, 2018, Intare FC announced their withdrawal from Azam Rwanda Premier League.

The Executive Committee took the decision to have the play-off matches played to determined the eventual replacement based on article 10.4 of the competitions regulations which state that, “In case the number of teams in D1 is to be increased, the Executive Committee of FERWAFA shall organize play off matches between the teams relegated in the second division and the losers of the semi-final matches of the second division.

Based on that article too, Intare Fc will not be considered for promotion to the top flight league for the next two seasons, instead it’s runner-up will be promoted.

Miroplast FC and Gicumbi FC were relegated 2017/2018 Azam Rwanda Premier League season while Sorwathe and Pepiniere were losing semi-finalists of the second division league.

The 2018/19 Azam Rwanda Premier League season will start next month.
