Rayon Sports Fc Enters Group B in CECAFA Kagame Cup after a draw with Gor Mahia

Representing Rwanda in the CECAFA Kagame Cup for 2018, Rayon Sports Fc was put in the group B of the confederation after a draw with Gor Mahia in a match that took place in Tanzania.

The group B consists of Rayon Sports Fc, Gor Mania FC, Lydia Ludic and Port FC from Djibouti.

The Azam Rwanda Premier League  holding  champions will play their first group  stage game against  Kenyan  champions- Gor Mania FC with whom they share a group  in CAF confederation Cup- on July 01, 2018.

Gor Mahia will face off with  Lydia Ludic Burundi (LLB) Acadeque, whom they eliminated in CAF Champions  League eliminatory  phase on the 2-1 score aggregate, on July 4th, a day after they will have clashed with Djiboutians, Port FC.

The Council for East and Central African Football Association (CECAFA) interclub competition sponsored by Rwanda’s  President,  Paul  Kagame, hence the name CECAFA Kagame cup, will be held in from June 28 to July 12, 2018.

The competition has not been  played in the last years ago since it was won by Tanzanian club Azam FC.

In the competition, the winning club scoops the cup with a cheque worth US$30000, while the second  is awarded US$20,000 with the  paid US$10,000.

The teams are grouped in three groups as follows:

AZAM FC (Tanzania), KCCA (Uganda), JKU (Zanzibar) and Kator FC (South Sudan)

Group B:

Rayon Sports FC (Rwanda), Gormahia (Kenya), Lydia Lydic (Burundi) and Ports (Djibouti)

Group C:

Yanga Africans (Tanzania) Simba SC (Tanzania), St George (Ethiopia) and Dakadaha (Somalia).

Rayon  Sports has won the competition  once and it was in 1998 when Zanzibar hosted them.
