Ijabo Ryawe Rwanda launches U-13 football tourney

Ijabo Ryawe Rwanda Association launched on Sunday an U-13 football tournament at stade Huye in Huye District. The U-13 Ijabo Ryawe Football Tournament which will be played during school holidays is aimed at developing grassroots football.

The launching ceremony attracted various actors involved in the development of football in Rwanda, led by Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), Rwanda Olympic and Sport Committee and Huye District among others.

In his remarks, the Ijabo Ryawe Rwanda president Sheikh Hamdan Habimana said, “This initiative was among my plans I had as I sought to be elected the president of Ijabo Ryawe Rwanda early this year. I am happy that we have finally been able to have the tournament being played as planned. This tournament will enhance the further development of youth football in Rwanda.

On behalf of FERWAFA president, Mr. Kayiranga Albert, the executive committee member in charge of technical development said, “This is a good initiative that deserves much appreciation. We will do the needful to fully support such initiatives aimed at developing grassroot football in the country,”

At the launching ceremony, two matches were played in the boy’s category with Mukura VS centre defeated Amagaju centre 3-1 while Huye football training centre edged Excellence football training centre 2-0.

In the girl’s category, The Winners defeated Amizero y’ubuzima Kibirizi 2-0.

The U-13 tournament will run for two months in different centres comprising Ijabo Ryawe Rwanda in all regions of Rwanda with winners qualifying to play at the league level which will produce the eventual winner of this year’s edition.

Ijabo Ryawe is comprised of 223 members drawn from different technical centres and academies from five zonal leagues of Rwanda.
