FUFA boss Moses Magogo has openly castigated the leadership of CECAFA under the presidency of Sirelkhatim Mutasim Gafaar.

Magogo who doubles as the CAF Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee chairperson has called for the immediate resignation of Mutasim over what he termed as “governance challenge” at the organization.

Through a letter to the long serving CECAFA General Secretary Nicholas Musonye, Magogo points out that Mutasim does not have time for the affairs of the regional football body.

Kamal Shaddad, a two-time CAF Executive Committee Member, was last week re-elected Sudan Football Association boss, replacing the long serving epoch of Mutasim as the FA president.

For the last couple of years, the regional body has virtually struggled to organize competitions.

Apart from the recent CECAFA Women Championship hosted by Uganda in Njeru last year, CECAFA has had nothing else to show.

The usually vibrant clubs’ and Senior Challenge Cups events have not been played since 2015.

In the last three weeks, CECAFA held an Executive Committee Meeting in Sudan where Uganda was represented by the first vice president Justus Mugisha.

During the meeting, a couple of new statutes were passed and key decisions made.

Kenya was picked to host the 2017 Senior Challenge Cup, Rwanda (Women) and Burundi to host the U-17 competition.

The CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup has been played since 1926, making the tournament arguably the oldest regional event on the African continent.
