Amavubi camps in Nyamata for the 2019 CAF preps

Rwanda National team, Amavubi, started residential camp on Sunday evening at Nyamata Golden Tulip Hotel in preparations for the 2019 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Central Africa Republic due next month,on June 11 in Bangui.


The residential camp at Nyamata started with all 16 local players reporting to base and they will be joined by the nine foreign based players this week.

Early this week, Amavubi head coach Antoine Hey named a 25-man provisional squad to face Central Africa Republic.



The 25-man provisional squad has new faces such as veteran defender Aimable Rucogoza from Bugesera Fc, right-back Eric Iradukunda from AS Kigali and Mugisha Gilbert from relegated side Pepiniere Fc who was the fastest player during the fitness assessment.

The foreign-based players are also expected to join camp this week. On Monday, Bayisenge Emery who plies his trade with Morocco side KAC Kénitra will land in the country then he will be followed by Kenya’s Gor Mahia Fc duo of midfielder Mugiraneza Jean Baptista and striker Tuyisenge Jacques and Tanzanian-based skipper Haruna Niyonzima who plays for Young Africans on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Belgium-based defender Nirisarike Salomon who plays for AFC Tubize will join camplater at night before Slovakia-baed trio of Omborenga Fitina, Iranzi Jean Claude and Rachid Kalisa who all feature for MFK Topvar Topoľčany arrive in Kigali on Thursday.

AS Vita striker Sugira Ernest will be the last to join the Amavubi camp on June 5 after club engagements with his side which will be playing the CAF Champions league match between AS Vita and St. George in Addis Ababa on June 4, 2017.

According to Ferwafa, the National Team training sessions start todat on Monday, May 29 until June 4 with morning sessions, open to fans, to be staged at Amahoro training ground behind the main stadium while the afternoon sessions will be closed at Amahoro main stadium.

Rwanda was drawn in Group H for AFCON 2019 along with Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Central African Republic. Amavubi will be looking to qualify for the second time having made its debut in 2004, in Tunisia.

Rwanda will face Central Africa Republic on June 11 at Stade Barthelemy Boganda in Bangui. Kick-off has been set at 15H00 local, 14H00 GMT.


As Amavubi will be facing Central Africa Republic on June 11, a day before Cote d’Ivoire will host Guinea at Stade de Bouaké in Abidjan.

The remaining match days will be staged between March, 2018 until November, 2018.

The winner of each group alongside the best three second placed teams will qualify for the tournament and hosts Cameroon will also be part of the qualifiers.

Midfielders: Ally Niyonzima (Mukura), Olivier Sefu Niyonzima (Rayon Sports), Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza (Gor Mahia), Djihad Bizimana (APR FC), Jean Claude Iranzi (MFK Topvar Topoľčany), Dominique Savio Nshuti (Rayon Sports), Haruna Niyonzima (Young Africans), Rachid Kalisa (MFK Topvar Topoľčany)
