FIFA President applauds Rayon Sports for winning Azam Rwanda league Tittle

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has applauded Azam Rwanda League Champions Rayon Sports for their triumph in the 2016-17 Azam Rwanda Premier league season.


In a letter addressed to Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) President, Vincent Nzamwita, Infantino wrote, “It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to Rayon Sports for their 8th league title overall.”

Lauding the efforts of the entire team, the 47-year-old wrote, “This title is the result of determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as well as the fans for this great achievement.”

“On behalf of the entire football community, I would like to thank Rayon Sports and Rwanda Football Federation for helping to spread the positive message of football,” Infantino further added.

Rayon Sports who will be crowned champions on June 15 when they play their final match of the season against SC Kiyovu, were declared eight-time league title winners a fortnight ago following a 2-1 win over Mukura VS.


With two matches now left to the end of the season, Rayon Sports have amassed 69 points and are scheduled to face traditional arch rivals and defending champions APR Fc on May 28.

According to Ferwafa, SC Kiyovu ranked 14th and tied on 27 points with Marines Fc and Gicumbi Fc, is battling to avoid relegation and must their remaining two encounters against Marines Fc on May 26 and Rayon Sports on June 15.

Rayon Sports who will represent Rwanda at next year’s Total CAF Champions League is also still contention for the Peace Cup title. They face Police Fc in the quarter final round.
