The Rwanda Utility Regulation Authority, RURA, revokes broadcasting license of the Amazing Grace Christian Radio.

The revocation follows after the Amazing Grace Christian Radio failed to comply with the sanctions that RURA put to the Radio. The Radio punished after sermon that it aired on 29 January 2018. A Radio presenter, Nicolas Niyibikora repeatedly insulted women referring to them as evil.

This broadcast also is sued over a partner of Radio shows insulting other religious belief.

To the RURA, the conduct of the Amazing Grace Christian Radio violates article 21(2a and 4b) of regulation, number:004/R/MR-MCA/RURA/2017 of  30 June-2017governing broadcasting services in Rwanda in regard to upholding public morality and Rwandan culture and values in general.

Following the breach of above regulations, RURA imposed sanctions against the Amazing Grace Christian Radio, which involves; making an apology to the policy by correcting the aired program, a one- month suspension of the radio and a fine of two millions francs (Frw2000000).

The RURA sent a letter to the radio requesting an explanation for non- compliance. But, Amazing Christian Radio ignored RURA’s sanctions. RURA was not convinced with the reasons that the radio explained to them.

As a result, RURA decides to revoke the license providing broadcasting services and the radio communication license issued to the Amazing Grace Christian Radio.

The RURA orders the radio to comply with this decision within two working days from today 24th April 2018.
