AHF launches another condom kiosk in RusiziPosted By: Udahogora Vanessa Peace - On:23/02/2018
AHF in partnership with Rwanda Biomedical Centre, is introducing condom kiosks. These condoms will be provided 24/7 and for free, is expected to bring prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STDs and unwanted pregnancies.
Another condom kiosk was introduced in Huye and the outcome shows that many Rwandans embraced this idea by consuming these condoms in large number as estimated up to 11,000 condoms were consumed in 2 months on one kiosk. This condom kiosk was launched this Wednesday 21st February 2018.
Theoneste Karuhije, working for RRP, says there are up to 42 cooperatives in rusizi of up to 2000 HIV positive people excluding children. He believes the condom kiosk will help prevent new infections and also help HIV positive couples not to interchange viruses resulting into resistance of the available medications.
Wenceslas Habarugira, in chage of disease prevention in Rusizi is grateful for the condoms
Wenceslas Habarugira is an employee in charge of disease prevention in Rusizi District and he thanks the idea of bringing a condom kiosk which will help the people getting condoms for free. He stated that condoms were expensive for some people and even hard to get at a certain hour of the day which would result in people choosing to have unprotected sex.
Residents are happy to share condoms
The challenge the condom kiosk is still facing, is the cultural perception of why someone should get a condom, and then hinders some people from asking for them. However, Dr Brenda believes that AHF, along with the ministry of health and other health related organizations, can continue to mobilize people and teach them a lot about prevention, especially for the benefit of those who get involved in sexual acts with multiple partners.
